2027 MeetFactory (Prague, Czech Republic) Residency for Taiwanese Artists

Hyper Wave, in collaboration with MeetFactory in Prague, Czechia, will select one Taiwanese artist for a two-month residency at MeetFactory from May 1 to June 30, 2027. MEET FACTORY is an arts center located in the Smíchov district of Prague, the capital of Czechia. Founded by artist David Černý in 2001, it relocated following the floods of 2002 and reopened at its current location in 2007 after extensive renovations. Home to one of the largest international artist residency programs in Czechia, MEET FACTORY has 15 artist studios and hosts more than 30 visual artists, curators, musicians, theatre directors, and writers from around the world each year. The venue also houses a concert hall, a theatre, and three exhibition spaces dedicated to curatorial experimentation, solo exhibitions, and large-scale outdoor murals, respectively. MEET FACTORY promotes interdisciplinary dialogue in contemporary art through its four departments—music, theatre, visual arts, and artist residencies—connecting international artists with local communities and encouraging exchange across disciplines and generations. 《2027 Theme of the Residency》 The 2027 residency will focus on speculative fiction and the concept of worldbuilding, understood as the creation of complex fictional environments, within the visual arts. For us, worldbuilding is not merely about creating fictional worlds, but rather a method through which we can explore how ideas about society, technology, ecology, and the future are formed. The project will invite artists to create such environments and critically examine their emancipatory potential in painting, sculpture, installation and other visual media.
