Women’s lives are often defined through the roles they inhabit—daughter, mother, partner, caregiver. But beyond these roles and labels, what remains of the self?
This series uses fiber and embroidery to explore women’s lived experiences, where emotion, memory, relationships, and the self become intertwined. Thread functions as both material and metaphor. Wrapping, puckering, pulling, and layering create tactile surfaces that reflect connections between women, textile traditions, and practices of care. The intricate surfaces contrast with tangled threads on the reverse, revealing what is visible and what remains unseen.
The works explore women’s transitions across multiple roles. As layers of identity are stripped away, the imagery shifts toward fragmentation and reconfiguration. Fragmentation becomes a metaphor for transformation, loosening established roles, relationships, and identities while allowing the self to be understood anew.
The works also engage with the concept of containment in art therapy, allowing the creative process to contain emotional experiences. Healing is not about restoring what has been fragmented, but about embracing life’s complexity and incompleteness through interweaving and reconstruction, opening new possibilities for what it means to become oneself.
