Arquetopia is thrilled to announce the launch of My First Arquetopia Residency, a new two-week introductory program designed exclusively for applicants ages 20 to 25 who are beginning, rethinking, or formalizing their artistic practice. This program is conceived for emerging or first-time residents who wish to define or reframe the foundations of their work through contextual immersion and guided observation. Taking place in Puebla between March and July, the residency is intentionally scheduled during academic recesses — spring and summer breaks — allowing young artists and students to pursue an international residency experience in Mexico without interrupting their studies. Over two weeks, participants engage closely with local museum collections, develop critical reflection through weekly meetings, and undertake structured field visits that situate artistic practice within broader social, historical, and material frameworks. Guided by one of three thematic axes — Gender, Landscape, and Museums & Collections — participants will follow a schedule that blends study, observation, and dialogue. Activities include in-situ classes, individualized mentoring, guided collection visits, and academic sessions at institutions such as Museo Bello, Museo de la Revolución, Museo del Alfeñique, and the Biblioteca Palafoxiana. My First Arquetopia Residency offers young artists a grounded and mentored point of departure — a space to reflect, experiment, and begin their creative trajectory with intention and responsibility.

PAIR 2027 theme ”Beta Port|An Unfinished Harbor” reflects a state of becoming. “Beta Port” suggests a condition that is not yet fixes and remains in progress—one that embodies openness, fluidity, and ongoing evolution. “An Unfinished Harbor”, in turn, points to a city that continuously retains the potential to be re-examined, reconnected, and rearticulated. PAIR approaches the residency as an open site of artistic production, supporting artists in developing works and methodologies that engage in dialogue with Kaohsiung through processes of research, exchange, and practice. Artists are invited to take Kaohsiung as a starting point and propose projects that emphasize public engagement, local sensibility, and experimental approaches.

To provide professional development opportunities for artistic and cultural creators from Taiwan and abroad, and to promote cultural and artistic exchange between Taipei and international cities, the Department of Artist Village Operations of the Taipei Culture Foundation (hereinafter referred to as “the Department”), with Treasure Hill Artist Village as its base, implements the Artist-in-Residence Taipei (AIR Taipei) program in accordance with the “Directions for Taipei City Government Department of Cultural Affairs Artist Exchange Program” and the “Treasure Hill Artist Village Residency Regulations.” By building a network that transcends national borders, AIR Taipei offers residency and exchange opportunities for contemporary artists and cultural practitioners to visit and work in Taipei, expands professional development possibilities for artistic and cultural talent from Taiwan and abroad, and encourages cross-cultural and interdisciplinary artistic energies to experiment, interact, and converge, thereby fostering cultural and artistic exchange between Taipei, other cities in Taiwan, and the international community. AIR Taipei is based at Treasure Hill Artist Village, located along the Xindian River in Taipei. In 2011, Treasure Hill was designated as Taipei’s first historic settlement. Its hillside architecture, built along the terrain and waterfront, is winding, layered, and complex. Over the years, people from different communities have settled in this mountain village, bringing with them diverse ways of living and needs, gradually shaping its organic settlement landscape. The spirit of “co-living with art” at Treasure Hill Artist Village has made it a symbiotic community for nurturing creative talent, and it continues to develop organically. AIR Taipei aims to put this spirit of artful co-living into practice, and to work together with Treasure Hill’s rich history and local residents to create an inspiring environment for artistic creation.

In the 1990s, Kio-A-Thau (Ciaotou) Sugar Refinery and its surrounding area were incorporated into Kaohsiung’s New Town Development Plan, a project that changed the urban landscape and topography on a large scale. Turning back the clock, this year, we try to look for what spatial landscape that Ciaotou District presents “before the new town was built" in the rolling tide of history. Theme of 2026: "The Boundary of Old Towns". Boundaries can be geographical, conceptual, relational, etc. "The space intertwined by boundaries" is a carrier, also a field consisted of visible and invisible reproduction, therefore, we should define the boundaries of ourselves and the space, searching for the multi-layered boundaries constructed through sound, vision, material and settlement.
