Yingge is an urban district located in the west part of New Taipei City. It is famous for production of porcelain and ceramics. In the 17th century, abundant clay was found in this area. Potters from Mainland China gradually settled here and made porcelain and pottery. Today, Yingge is the largest center of ceramic production in Taiwan, with over 800 ceramic-related businesses in the area.

New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum (YCM) was planned in 1988 and opened on November 26, 2000, and is Taiwan's first ceramics-themed museum. It is dedicated to the investigation, collection, preservation, and maintenance of Taiwan's ceramics culture, as well as to research, curation, exhibition, and promotional education. YCM actively engages in international exchange. In 2011, the International Residency Center was established, with ceramic-creation facilities such as studios, classrooms, a kiln room, a materials room, and a plaster room. Each year, the Taiwan Ceramics Residency Program provides 12~14 opportunities for cooperative agencies and artists through a 3-month residency in order to encourage ceramic artists and designers, both local and global, to come and experience the life in a pottery town, infusing creative energy into their work. Seminars, workshops, and educational events are held to showcase results of the residency. In recent years, YCM has designated different themes for the residency and called for artist proposals, hoping to increase local cultural exchange and boost the interaction between the museum and the community.
