Artists who participate in the 2027 Soulangh AiR Program will be encouraged to explore their artistic practices based on the theme of sugar as a significant element of the area's heritage. In addition, 'salt' and 'local cultures' may also be explored as themes for artists to reinterpret through their work, thereby representing the landscapes, culture, and history of this unique region.

| Funding | 1.Artists can apply for residency living expenses (including personal income tax ranging from 6% to 20% for foreigners and 2nd Generation NHI), the grant amount will be determined during the review committee meeting. The maximum grant per case is NT$800 per day, up to 90 days (totaling NT$72,000). 2.Artists can apply for exhibition production fees (including personal income tax ranging from 6% to 20% for foreigners and 2nd Generation NHI), the grant amount will be determined during the review committee meeting. The maximum grant per case is NT$200 per day, up to 90 days (totaling NT$18,000) 3.Since 2016, selected artists must pay an additional stamp duty (0.1% of the grant amount) in cash, which is not included in the grant amount. |
| Provided by Host | a. During the residency, each artist will be provided with: i. A private suite for accommodation. The room, utilities, and shower facilities are provided free of charge. Personal items, such as towels and toothbrushes, are not provided. ii. A bicycle. iii. An exhibition space equipped with lighting rails, wooden partitions, air conditioning, and other relevant facilities. b. During the residency, artists may use the following facilities and equipment free of charge: i. Multimedia equipment for exhibitions, including projectors, monitors, speakers, and lighting equipment. A detailed equipment list is available on the official website. ii. A shared artist studio equipped with tables, chairs, and room partitions. iii. Hardware tools required for artistic production, such as electric drills, subject to actual on-site availability. Artists who require specific tools or equipment must complete the equipment requirement list in the online application system. Any equipment unavailable on-site must be prepared by the artist. c. During the residency, Soulangh staff will provide essential assistance as needed. For projects requiring professional or technical support, artists are encouraged to hire additional personnel independently. d. The maximum budget for materials used in artistic creation and exhibition production is NT$150,000, including VAT. The budget may be used for consumables, professional services, and structures required for exhibitions, workshops, and performances, including: i. Materials required for artworks. Artwork shipping costs are not included. ii. Woodwork, painting, and printing required for exhibition installation. iii. Flyer design and printing, limited to 500 copies. iv. Chinese or English translation services for exhibition-related materials. v. Artwork insurance. vi. Opening press conference expenses. vii. Materials required for workshops. e. Procurement and reimbursement regulations All expenses listed above must comply with Soulangh’s procurement regulations and be supported by valid receipts or other required documentation. The budget is not provided as a direct subsidy or cash payment to individual artists. f. Materials requirement list Artists must provide a list of required materials through the online application system before the residency begins. g. Living expenses and creation fees Living expenses and creation fees will be paid in installments in accordance with the contract. All payments must follow government reimbursement procedures and are subject to the accounting review and approval schedule. Artists are advised to prepare at least one month of living expenses in advance, approximately NT$15,000 to NT$20,000, to cover urgent or initial expenses. |

| How to Apply | Application Process: a. Applications are accepted online only. Fill out the application form on the AIR in Tainan global online application website http://air-culture.tainan.gov.tw/. Please complete the application before the deadline. b. Applicants must upload a personal resume, residency project plan, and recommendation letters for reference. |
| Selection Procedure | a. Open selection. The review committee, composed of experts and scholars appointed by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will conduct the selection process based on principles of objectivity and fairness. Review meetings are not open to the public to respect applicants' privacy. b. Results will be announced in November 2026 on the official websites of both the Tainan City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau and Soulangh Cultural Park, and Soulangh Cultural Park’s Facebook page. Selected applicants will be notified via email. Individual feedback on the selection results will not be provided. |
| Expected Outcome | Selected artists must hold one achievement exhibition of their work and (at least) one parent-child workshop or open studio day at Soulangh Cultural Park before the end of their residency. |
