Ey!Studio
|
The residency welcomes artists, researchers, curators, writers, filmmakers, musicians, and interdisciplinary practitioners from around the world. Rather than following a fixed curriculum, Ey!Studio AiR encourages self-directed practice, allowing each resident to develop their project at their own pace while becoming part of an international community of creative practitioners.
Located in Carabanchel, Madrid’s leading district for contemporary artistic production, the residency offers direct access to galleries, artist studios, independent spaces, and cultural initiatives that have transformed the neighbourhood into one of the city’s most vibrant creative ecosystems.
Residents receive private accommodation, access to shared workspaces and common facilities, and opportunities for professional exchange through studio visits, networking, and participation in an optional collective exhibition or open studio, depending on the residency period.
As a non-profit cultural association, Ey!Studio reinvests all income generated by the residency program into maintaining and expanding its activities, supporting future artistic initiatives, and strengthening international cultural exchange.

| Funding | Ey!Studio is a non-profit cultural association dedicated to supporting artistic research, creative practice, and international cultural exchange. The actual cost of a 4-week residency for each artist is approximately EUR 6,000. The residency fee listed in this open call covers around 40% of the actual cost, while the remaining 60% is subsidized by Ey!Studio through the association’s own resources. Therefore, the support provided by this program is not a cash stipend, but a cost-sharing subsidy in which the organizer absorbs part of the residency cost to reduce the participation fee for artists. All income generated from the residency program will be reinvested in Ey!Studio’s daily operations, program development, and long-term sustainability, and will also support future initiatives for artists and cultural workers, grant programs, and public cultural activities. |
| Provided by Host | The organizer provides each resident with a private room according to the selected residency plan, along with access to a shared kitchen and common areas. Residential facilities include bed linen, towels, a shared washer-dryer, and regular cleaning services for the residence. Residents have access to a shared workspace with natural light, including an individual work area assigned to each resident. A common table is also available for meetings, meals, and residency-related activities. Ey!Studio will promote the projects and creative processes developed during the residency through its official website and communication channels, and residents will also be included in the Ey!Studio residency archive. Visual artists and filmmakers may participate in a collective exhibition curated by the Ey!Studio team, with support including exhibition design and production, installation and deinstallation, as well as photographic and video documentation. In addition, the organizer provides a practical guide to the Carabanchel neighbourhood and the city of Madrid, a weekly cultural agenda featuring exhibitions, events, and activities, as well as an interactive map of Carabanchel’s artistic ecosystem, including local galleries, artists’ studios, and independent art spaces. |

| How to Apply | Apply online via the official form. Application Form: https://forms.gle/DYgzC7DsitJEVrWY9 |
| Selection Procedure | Applications are reviewed by the Ey!Studio team on a rolling basis throughout the year, subject to residency availability. Selection is based on the quality and originality of the proposed project, the applicant’s artistic trajectory, the relevance of the residency to their current practice, and the feasibility of developing the project within the residency period. Ey!Studio welcomes emerging, mid-career, and established practitioners from all disciplines and cultural backgrounds. Previous exhibition history or academic qualifications are not required. Applicants will be notified of the selection outcome by email within approximately two to three weeks after submitting a complete application. |
| Expected Outcome | Residents are expected to advance their artistic research or creative project during the residency. Depending on each participant’s practice, research focus, and residency period, outcomes may include new artworks, artistic research, publications, performances, audiovisual works, public presentations, and, where applicable, participation in a collective exhibition or open studio. Ey!Studio encourages research-based artistic practices and does not require residents to complete a specific artwork or fixed final outcome. The program places greater emphasis on the creative process, professional exchange, and engagement with Madrid’s contemporary art ecosystem. All residents become part of the Ey!Studio international residency network. Their residency projects and creative outcomes will be included in the Ey!Studio residency archive and promoted through the organization’s communication channels. |
