For its ninth edition, Encura IX expands its territorial focus to Bilbao, connecting the artistic contexts of Barcelona and Bilbao. The programme invites applicants to develop situated, collaborative, and research-based curatorial projects. Proposed projects should engage with artistic practices in both contexts and include collaboration and dialogue with artists or agents in residence at Hangar and BilbaoArte.
| Duration | The residency will take place between November 2026 and March 2027, lasting approximately three and a half months. The residency will be held in Barcelona from November 2 to December 18, 2026, and in Bilbao from January 11 to March 14, 2027. |

| Funding | The selected applicant will receive a curatorial fee of €3,000, living expenses of up to €1,500, a research budget of up to €1,000, a production budget of up to €2,800 for public activation or socialization of the research, and travel support of up to €500 between the applicant’s place of residence, Barcelona, and Bilbao. |

| How to Apply | Applicants must submit a single PDF document of no more than 10 pages through the online form. The document should include personal information, a short CV or biography, a motivation letter, a curatorial project proposal to be developed during the residency, a full project description, methodology, possible collaborators or artists involved and their relevance to the project, a proposed framework for activation or public socialization, a work plan and timeline, and up to five images related to the project. Applications that do not include the required information or exceed the stated length limits will not be accepted. |
| Selection Procedure | The selection will value projects that connect the contexts of Barcelona and Bilbao and develop situated curatorial research. Projects should demonstrate experimentation in curatorial formats, research methodologies, public sharing, and collaborative relations, with an emphasis on non-conventional exhibition formats and knowledge exchange. The call also values projects that engage with critical, collaborative, and non-hierarchical forms of knowledge production, interdisciplinary practices, gender equality, reduction of inequalities, sustainability, and climate action. |
