PAIR approaches the residency as an open site of artistic production, supporting artists in developing works and methodologies that engage in dialogue with Kaohsiung through processes of research, exchange, and practice. Artists are invited to take Kaohsiung as a starting point and propose projects that emphasize public engagement, local sensibility, and experimental approaches.
| Duration | The 2027 residency period runs from January 1 to December 31, 2027, divided into four intervals: January–March, April–June, July–September, and October–December. Each artist or group is expected to stay for 60 to 90 days, and no less than 60 days. |

| Provided by Host | PAIR provides each artist or group with a 10-ping studio space including a private bathroom, and a 5-ping living space. Shared facilities include spaces for social interaction, kitchen use, dining, administration, lectures, and meetings. PAIR also provides opportunities for exchange with local art and cultural spaces and creators, public presentation opportunities, and staff support for administration, resource matching, and creative coordination. |

A deposit is required upon arrival: USD/EUR 150 for international artists, or NTD 4,500 for domestic artists. Artists are also responsible for artwork removal, related costs, insurance, visa fees, and professional installation or equipment rental costs, which may be covered through the material subsidy. |
| How to Apply | Apply online through the official PAIR website. The application page requires login or account creation. Required materials include: artist CV and artist statement within three pages, residency plan within three pages, public engagement or workshop plan within three pages, portfolio PDF within 10 MB, and one digital recommendation letter issued within the past three months by the head of a professional art institution or an art and cultural practitioner. All attachments must be PDF files, and each file must not exceed 10 MB. |
| Selection Procedure | Stage One is document review. Shortlisted applicants will be notified by email and invited to Stage Two online interviews. Stage Two evaluates and clarifies the residency plan, workshop plan, and motivation. The final selection meeting determines the final list based on the results of the first and second stages. Criteria include artistic practice experience, portfolio development and maturity, relevance to the annual theme and Kaohsiung’s local context and environment, effectiveness of public engagement, educational outreach or exchange, and completeness of application materials. |
| Expected Outcome | Before the end of the residency, artists must leave at least one set of project documentation, including text and visual materials, at the Pier-2 Art Center, with the format mutually agreed upon by both parties. During the residency, artists must carry out public engagement activities according to their plan, such as workshops, public exchange sessions, exhibitions or performances. Artists are also expected to collaborate with Pier-2’s outreach programs, including talks, exhibitions or performances, open studios, and other exchange activities. |
