More About Residency	Taipei Artist Village

To provide professional development opportunities for artistic and cultural creators from Taiwan and abroad, and to promote cultural and artistic exchange between Taipei and international cities, the Department of Artist Village Operations of the Taipei Culture Foundation (hereinafter referred to as “the Department”), with Treasure Hill Artist Village as its base, implements the Artist-in-Residence Taipei (AIR Taipei) program in accordance with the “Directions for Taipei City Government Department of Cultural Affairs Artist Exchange Program” and the “Treasure Hill Artist Village Residency Regulations.” By building a network that transcends national borders, AIR Taipei offers residency and exchange opportunities for contemporary artists and cultural practitioners to visit and work in Taipei, expands professional development possibilities for artistic and cultural talent from Taiwan and abroad, and encourages cross-cultural and interdisciplinary artistic energies to experiment, interact, and converge, thereby fostering cultural and artistic exchange between Taipei, other cities in Taiwan, and the international community.

AIR Taipei is based at Treasure Hill Artist Village, located along the Xindian River in Taipei. In 2011, Treasure Hill was designated as Taipei’s first historic settlement. Its hillside architecture, built along the terrain and waterfront, is winding, layered, and complex. Over the years, people from different communities have settled in this mountain village, bringing with them diverse ways of living and needs, gradually shaping its organic settlement landscape. The spirit of “co-living with art” at Treasure Hill Artist Village has made it a symbiotic community for nurturing creative talent, and it continues to develop organically. AIR Taipei aims to put this spirit of artful co-living into practice, and to work together with Treasure Hill’s rich history and local residents to create an inspiring environment for artistic creation.

Duration	International Residency: Continuous residency for 8 to 12 weeks, with four sessions: Mar–May 2027, Jun–Aug 2027, Sep–Nov 2027, and Dec 2027–Feb 2028. Domestic Residency: 12-week residency, with four sessions: Mar–May 2027, Jun–Aug 2027, Sep–Nov 2027, and Dec 2027–Feb 2028. Overseas Exchange Residency: According to each partner institution; please refer to the appendix “Overseas Residency Institution Information.” Treasure Hill Artist Village x Taipei Puppet Theater Project Residency: Continuous residency required between August and October 2027.

Funding	International Residency: None. Domestic Residency: Creative grant of NTD 72,000, paid in two installments. Overseas Exchange Residency: Creative grant of NTD 100,000, paid in two installments; one round-trip economy-class airfare from Taiwan to the nearest international airport of the residency site is also provided. Treasure Hill Artist Village x Taipei Puppet Theater Project Residency: Taipei Puppet Theater provides a creative grant of NTD 20,000 (tax included).

Costs	International Residency: The selected artist must cover transportation, project production and living expenses during the residency, as well as visa and insurance costs. Domestic Residency: None. Overseas Exchange Residency: Selected artists must arrange and pay for their own visa, travel, and medical insurance. How to Apply	Applications are accepted online only. Applicants must complete the online application through the 2027 AIR OPEN CALL website by 11:59:59 AM (Taipei Time) on June 30, 2026. Only one residency category may be selected per applicant per year; duplicate applications are not allowed. International Residency / Treasure Hill Artist Village x Taipei Puppet Theater Project Residency: Chinese or English CV and residency proposal required. Domestic Residency: Chinese CV and residency proposal required. Overseas Exchange Residency: Individual applications only; applicants must submit Chinese and English CVs, residency proposal, and required application materials, and select only one partner institution from the appendix.
Selection Procedure	Applications are reviewed through an open selection process by a committee of 5 to 7 experts and scholars from relevant fields. Review criteria include the project concept, feasibility and implementation, suitability for the selected residency institution, perspective and vision for exchange, and the applicant’s experience and related statements. The review process is not open to the public. Final selection is as follows: International Residency: 20 selected candidates; positions may remain vacant if no suitable candidate is found. Domestic Residency: 4 selected candidates; positions may remain vacant if no suitable candidate is found. Overseas Exchange Residency: 3 candidates are first shortlisted by the committee, and the final selection of 1 artist for each institution is made by the overseas partner institution. Treasure Hill Artist Village x Taipei Puppet Theater Project Residency: 1 selected candidate and 1 alternate; positions may remain vacant if no suitable candidate is found; the alternate may fill the place if the selected candidate withdraws.
Expected Outcome	International Residency: None. Domestic Residency: None. Overseas Exchange Residency: A residency report must be submitted for review in accordance with the agreement; failure to submit it on time will be regarded as forfeiting 20% of the creative grant. Treasure Hill Artist Village x Taipei Puppet Theater Project Residency: The selected artist must collaborate with the Taipei Puppet Theater festival curatorial team to create a 20-minute performance and participate in a public presentation; they may also take part in public talks, visits, and residency presentations. Additional note: The “Important Notes” also state that selected artists must agree to grant a non-exclusive, royalty-free license for residency outcomes, including images, videos, and texts, for non-profit uses such as policy promotion, documentation, and media publicity.
