More About Residency MacDowell
Artists who are creating new original works of art are welcomed to apply for a MacDowell Fellowship. A MacDowell Fellowship (awarded through a competitive application process) consists of a residency up to six weeks and includes a private studio, housing, and three meals per day. MacDowell is designed to facilitate a balance between social interaction and independent focus on work. Private studios together with the communal dining and recreation rooms at the main hall, combine to provide an environment adaptable to each individual’s needs.

Each artist has exclusive use of a studio while in residence. Some artists will sleep in their studio, others will sleep in a private bedroom in a shared dormitory.

Fellows are obliged to adhere to the MacDowell Community Agreement that speaks to our respect for artists and their creative process and asks in return for curiosity, generosity, and goodwill within the resident community, so that Fellows may participate in the enriching exchange that has given rise to countless friendships and cross-disciplinary collaborations.

Funding For those artists with financial need, MacDowell has a financial assistance program of a one time stipend of up to $1500 USD and a travel reimbursement grant.
