Artist Statement:
Ludicrousness and Interactive Mechanism:
With ‘interaction’ as the core concept of this creation, an interactive mechanism is embedded in the work. Through the involvement of its audience, the structure of the work deviates from its usual rigid form to become dynamic and ever-changing, providing the audience an instant feedback.
It is my hope that the mechanism will create a more reciprocal relationship between the work and its audience; thus, the latter gains a sense of release from reality, or more, to fulfill one’s desire for manipulation and control.
Moreover, the work reveals my view on childhood experience and social relationship. When a viewer interacts with the work, it can be seen as a child’s toy, while the feature of interaction in the work reveals my attitude toward social interaction.
Residency Recollections:
My time at ISCP was my first experience participating in a residency program abroad. Even though my previous exhibitions in foreign countries had given me a general sense of the international arts environment, they were not as thorough or insightful to my liking. Through the residency program at ISCP, however, I had gained much more in-depth knowledge to the arts and had also conducted more meaningful exchanges with other artists. My views had been expanded by the multicultural art communities and the splendid art stages in New York. What I saw and heard from living in a foreign environment would bring much inspiration and source material for me as an artist, and I look forward to seeing these elements take form in my life and my works in the future.
