Work Liberated Gesture
Yuhan Su graduated from Berklee College of Music, majoring in Jazz Vibraphone Performance, and Taipei National University of Arts' master program majoring in Percussion Performance. She is the recent recipient of DownBeat magazine Critics Poll in the category "Rising Star" of Vibraphone. Her records have been released to widespread approval and received numerous music awards and nominations, including "Best Album of the Year," "Best Jazz Album of the Year, " "Best Jazz Single. " "Best New Artist, " "Best Instrumentalist Award" from the Golden Indie Music Award and "Best Performance Album of the year, " "Best Composer Award, " "Best Producer Award" from the Golden Melody Award in Taiwan, and "Best Release of the Year" by All About Jazz and Downbeat. She is now an artist of the well-known New York Jazz record company Sunnyside Records and an active musician in the world.

Artist Statement：
During the residency, I participated in many arts events. While exchanging experience with local and international artists in Paris, I observed that French performers or even the audience have much more patience to listen to the manifestation of the music. Compared to New York's music, music in Paris carries a style with more elegance and imaginary space. In New York, where I have stayed for more than eight years, the music tends to present fast rhythm and dazzling colors. So, I was startled that the European and American aesthetics could be so unlike.

Among the various museums I have visited, I was most deeply amazed by the abstraction master Hans Hartung's work in the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris. His work motivated me to develop my jazz series, Liberated Gesture. Before the end of the residency, I held a work presentation in the music hall in Cité internationale des arts and invited renowned local jazz artists to perform with me. Liberated Gesture was one of the Repertoire. I intended to use a musical language to deliver linear, dotted, and color-block motifs in this work. It shows dramatic power and visuals. The music is moveable to unknown places without any limitation.

Thanks to Centre Culturel de Taiwan à Paris, it filmed me during my residency when I was practicing or working. The interview also documented my points of view toward the music of New York and Paris.

Fortunately, I got the chance to visit Cité internationale des arts when encountering a career challenge. I opened my mind to experience the scene and style of Paris. The art stimulation and inspiration from the city also encouraged me to rethink my idea and creation concepts. Moreover, I also had enough time to practice and hone my music skills. What I acquired in Paris will become a vigor strength to support me to reach an even more mature creation phase. I will share my music with more and more people in the world.
