Soulangh | "PAUSE"
2026/10/29
Exhibition Dates: 2026-10-16 ~ 2027-02-28
Venue: Gallery A5, Soulangh Cultural Park
Emerged through a process of making, unmaking and reconsidering. New fabric meets material repurposed from a previous commercial structure; what was planned encounters what is found. The black and white of the recovered material interrupted the original project and asked for a Pause. It returned me to a long fascination with Taoist thought: balance and unity within the unintelligible complexity of the myriad manifestations of reality.
At Soulangh, a former sugar factory, sweetness carries the weight of industry. The mass of its concrete structures still imposes on land once unimposed upon. Sugar was tied to wealth, commerce and industrial development: cutting, crushing, boiling, heavy metal and labor. Steeled sweetness.
The giant snail was not here. Now it is. Its trails reach further back than steel yet disappear sooner. Is that why we do not follow them? The installation moves between accumulation and emptiness, stimulation and idleness, hues and their absence. It does not ask change to Stop. Stop is an unattainable illusion. It offers a place to Pause within it.
