"Unboxing & Connecting: Mobility and Residency in Culture" brings together Taiwan-based organizations and institutions engaged in artist residency programs and international cultural exchange. Through introductions to their residency philosophies, site-specific characteristics, international exchange projects, and collaborative practices with artists from Taiwan and abroad, the exhibition explores how artist residencies create opportunities for encounters and dialogue across different cultures and local contexts.
The exhibition is structured around two concepts: "Connecting" and "Unboxing." "Connecting" represents the development of cross-border collaborations through institutional support, international organizations, and professional platforms, allowing different cultures to communicate, interact, and negotiate with one another. "Unboxing" turns the focus toward the local context. Each residency can be understood as opening a box containing the history of a space, community participation, and the surrounding landscape, providing conditions from which artistic practices can emerge and respond to their environment.
Through experiences and case studies presented by different artist residency organizations, the exhibition highlights the ongoing movement and connections among artists, local communities, institutions, and international networks, offering visitors a broader perspective on the diverse practices of artist residencies and international cultural exchange in Taiwan.
