Soulangh | Yashin "Mapping along the line"
2026/08/30
Exhibition Dates: July 10-October 31, 2026 (Wednesday-Sunday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM)
Venue: Gallery A3-1, Soulangh Cultural Park
Mapping along the line is a solo exhibition by Soulangh Artist-in-Residence Yashin, developed through her exploration of the former sugar railway and its surrounding landscape.
During her residency, Yashin cycled along the abandoned railway tracks, moving through local settlements and alleyways while observing and documenting the railway, natural surroundings, and traces of everyday life. These field observations were transformed into paintings and visual narratives that reflect the relationship between place, memory, and time.
Using a straight railway line running horizontally across her compositions as a visual reference, Yashin reorganizes the surrounding scenery and its relationship to time. The railway therefore becomes more than a subject of representation; it serves as a narrative structure connecting paintings, books, and the exhibition space.
Through movement, observation, and visual storytelling, Mapping along the line reinterprets the cultural memories embedded in Soulangh's sugar-industry landscape, inviting viewers to reconsider the connections between locality, space, time, and memory.
