Sprawling Roots, Lasting Legacies: Bamboo Curtain Studio's Intertwined Network and Cultural Practice
2026/07/22
Event Dates: 2026.7.11(Sat.)-2027.12.31(Fri.)
Venue:Treasure Hill Artist Village, Frontier Gallery No. 9
Much like the resilient, tangled roots of the Tamsui River mangroves, Bamboo Curtain Studio has cultivated a unique cultural network amid the shifting tides of Taiwan’s art world since the 1990s. It has served both as a nurturing base for artistic experimentation and a vital hub for international connections. From its founding in 1995 to its closing in 2021, Margaret Shiu and her team deeply enriched the cultural landscape, fostering transnational connections and creating a fertile ground for art practice, presentation, and cultural policy.
Taking this botanical imagery as a starting point, this archival research exhibition traces the studio’s decades of dedication to international exchanges and residencies, while highlighting the formidable challenges of post-closure archiving. Through the display of key documents, complemented by essential audiovisual records, we hope to leave a lasting imprint of their cultural practice and ensure that the spiritual legacy of Bamboo Curtain Studio may endure.
