Chang Chih-Ning Solo Exhibition: Where Boundaries Blur

✠ Artist Introduction
Born in Kaohsiung in 1994, Chang Chih-Ning holds Master of Fine Arts degrees from Cardiff Metropolitan University and Kingston University London. She currently lives and works in Taipei. Working primarily with painting and spatial installation, her practice is informed by philosophical inquiries into metaphysics, idealism, and ontology, focusing on the fluid relationships among the self, consciousness, perception, and existence. In recent years, she has combined mixed media, oil paint, and oil pastels with highly physical brushwork and shifting human figures to explore the blurred boundaries between reality and illusion, as well as between the body and the mind. Her practice also extends into spatial installations, inviting viewers to participate in the formation of meaning through movement, observation, and interaction.

✠ Exhibition Introduction
Human figures repeatedly emerge and gradually dissolve throughout Chang Chih-Ning’s works. Flowing brushstrokes, ambiguous contours, and traces left by the body come together to construct a perceptual space suspended between reality and illusion. Drawing on ideas from psychology, philosophy, and the Diamond Sutra, Chang continues to examine how the self is shaped through encounters with others, as well as the constantly shifting boundaries between reality and illusion, body and consciousness, and seeing and being seen. For Chang, viewing is not a one-way gaze, but an ever-evolving dialogue. As visitors enter the exhibition space and move among the works, each movement, observation, and connection reactivates their meanings, allowing Where Boundaries Blur to become a condition that continuously unfolds.
