Art Site of Railway Warehouse Resident Artist Chen Yen-Chi Solo Exhibition — 【co-co-co-co-co-co-】
2026/06/11
Event Dates: June 7 (Sun) – July 19 (Sun)
Venue: Art Site of Railway Warehouse, Hsinchu City
In 2025, Art Site of Railway Warehouse, Hsinchu City, originally functioning as an artist residency site, was temporarily closed due to renovation works. Amid this ongoing state of “under construction,” artist Chen Yen-Chi proactively signed an agreement with the construction team and entered the construction site, positioning himself within an ambiguous space—neither fully employed nor merely an observer, but somewhere between artist and worker. Carrying materials, cleaning, repairing, resting—through these repetitive and seemingly ordinary acts of labor, one gradually realizes that so-called co-working is not simply about completing a task together, but rather a temporary exchange of roles, languages, and bodily positions.
“co-” therefore becomes the starting point of this exhibition. It may refer to “togetherness,” but it can also resemble an unfinished utterance, a pause caught in the throat, or the repetitive rhythms and noises echoing throughout a construction site. As the artist enters the site, simulates, exchanges, and even temporarily occupies the positions of others, “co-” no longer remains an idealized imagination of collaboration. Instead, it becomes a condition constantly negotiated between systems, labor, and language. It is precisely through this repeated process of approaching and misalignment that once-stable social roles begin to loosen—identity no longer remains fixed, but continuously shifts, reorganizes, and waits to be recognized anew.
