"DEEP-SKIN - à fleur de peau"
The multimedia installation « DEEP-SKIN - à fleur de peau » explores different ways of achieving a new form of intimacy where the function of touch would no longer have any reason to exist, but where other modes of feelings would be invented.
If the new modes of online relationships allow for quasi-real intimacy, what does this sanitized intimacy reveal, where real bodies are transformed into screen-bodies? What is a feeling of zero distance between bodies that no longer exist? What is missing in this kind of relationship and what is new in this mode of existence?
Does the loneliness of screens really threaten our real lives? Isn't the abandonment of the body what humanity has long desired? Aren't our smooth, filtered digital identities the secret choice we have made? And what if, on the contrary, digital identities allowed us to imagine new ways of inventing bodies and exploring new ways of being?
« DEEP-SKIN - à fleur de peau » attempts to imagine future human relationships in the digital age, based on new emotions or new ways of feeling that we do not yet know. Through a digitally animated story and a short virtual reality experience, the work explores a new mode of intimacy where touch would no longer have a reason to exist, but where other modes of relationship would be imagined through another skin, more capable of emotionally and psychologically touching the human spirit : a kind of even more tactile skin, connected to new emotional depths.
Sandrine Deumier is a pluridisciplinary artist working in the fields of performance, poetry and video art whose work investigates post-futurist themes through the de- velopment of aesthetic forms related to digital imaginaries. Passionate about digital storytelling and immersive artistic experiences, she has been working for several years to develop poetic and visual fictions centred on the imaginary world of the living. Ecological concerns and speculative futures are at the heart of her research. Her various works focus on imagining new ways of inhabiting the world using new technologies from an animist perspective, where the preservation of natural balances takes precedence over that of predation, accumulation and unlimited growth.
