【Taiwan Literature Base】WiR Regular Activity | Unsealing the Ledger of Silence

Crystal Huang is a doctoral student in drama and theatre at National Taiwan University, with previous enrollment at the Graduate Institute of Museum Studies at Taipei National University of the Arts and a master's degree from the Graduate Institute of Veterinary Medicine at NTU. Working as a freelancer, she has participated in documentary productions and independent curatorial projects. Huang was selected for the second cohort of the Taipei Performing Arts Center's Musical Theatre Talent Development Workshop. The artist has received support from the Ministry of Culture Grant for Young Artists and Writers for two consecutive years, and her musical theatre scripts have been successively selected for the National Taichung Theater's NTT+× CTBC Musical Playwright Incubation Project Chopped and the Taipei Performing Arts Center's Musical Theatre Development Program for early-stage creative development. Her curatorial proposals have also received regular funding from the Taipei Department of Cultural Affairs.

With a practice that traverses performing and visual arts, Huang continues to explore interdisciplinary creation while expanding her work across genres and media. Her recent works include musicals such as Zeelandia and Sundial. Huang believes in the transformative power of art. Japanese writer Shuichi Yoshida once wrote, "I describe their voices, spoken with all their might, as though gently scooping water with a ladle." The artist hopes to do the same, to turn moments of voicelessness into acts of creation, and to find new ways to converse with the world.
