Artist Residency Program - Project 002 Fu Wan-Ting

About the Artist
Fu Wan-Ting was born in Taipei. After graduating from university, she went to Europe for further studies, obtaining a National Higher Diploma in Plastic Arts from the École Nationale Supérieure d'Art de Bourges in France. She then participated in the postgraduate training program at the same institution and received the "Certificate of Research and Training for Artists in Educational Institutions" (Cépia). During her time abroad, she conducted in-depth field research in various educational institutions. Her work spans multiple forms from a microscopic perspective, including painting, sculpture, photography, and installation. Through the diverse use of various media, she explores the collective consciousness generated under social and educational structures, revealing their impact on individual creativity and ways of thinking.

About the Project
During her eleven years of studying in France, Fu Wan-Ting deeply experienced the different contexts of Eastern and Western education. This residency program continues the observational angle of her "Social Correction Techniques" series, fulfilling a long-term sampling and field investigation art action plan. Fu Wan-Ting chooses the most fundamental subject in art classes—still life painting—as the core of her research. She positions herself as an observer of social education correction techniques, seeking the potential common models of this collective standardization through long-term observation of how still life painting forms. Reflecting on her own creative intentions and from the perspective of identity construction, she exposes the implicit norms and frameworks of the current art training system from the passive position of a creative learner.

Exhibition Introduction
"DO NOT USE BLACK." is not just the exhibition title but also a slogan and action statement. Fu Wan-Ting presents her resistant consciousness through her "Excellent Still Life" series, featuring large-scale billboard paintings using painting as a medium. Through her unique perspective and profound insight, she reveals the potential paradigms within the art training system, exploring the conflicts within standardized action consciousness in collective society. She attempts to uncover the remaining model templates to respond to the fact that art education should inherently be free and independent.
