Located at the Sanying Reclaimed Land, where the Yingge River and Dahan River converge, the New Taipei City Art Museum instantiates a significant step in the New Taipei City Government’s initiative to promote local culture and urban renewal. As the city’s first public art museum serving New Taipei City’s vast territory with its abundant natural resources and population, NTCAM combines urban aesthetics, natural ecology, and regional industrial traits. It connects diverse cultural venues and art communities throughout the city, introduces international art trends, and promotes aesthetic education for all ages, aspiring to become a museum for everyone.

NTCAM focuses on modern and contemporary art, as well as visual culture since the 20th century. With the vision of local roots, global reach, it privileges artistic practice, expands its collection, and advances local research. Through humanistic spirit and interdisciplinary thinking, the museum formulates innovative curatorial strategy, while promoting diverse and inclusive art education. Dedicated to expanding global collaboration, NTCAM forms alliances with international institutions, introducing overseas artistic perspective and talent, and building an international platform for local artists to facilitate artistic practice and exchange.

Revolving around the idea of an “open museum”, NTCAM provides ample artistic and cultural resources to the public. It tailors interactive learning experience to different age groups, encourages lifelong learning, and cultivates public aesthetic literacy. The museum also incorporates sustainability into its management principle, combining eco-friendly architectural designs to develop an arts and culture eco-park. The aim is to establish an example of a green museum, reimagining the city’s aesthetic, ultimately becoming a cultural hub where professionalism and community access merge.

The NTCAM Residency Program was launched as the museum prepares for its opening. This program aims to encourage artists and researchers to explore local art and cultural issues through long-term observation and on-site investigation, responding to the trends and dynamics of contemporary society. It seeks to produce creative works and research projects that integrate both local and international perspectives. Additionally, the program fosters local networks, facilitates international exchange, links and integrates resources from diverse sources, and supports collaborative projects.

As one of the New Taipei City Art Museum’s annual programs, the NTCAM Residency Program includes both invitation-based and open-call formats. 2025, priority will be given to the Invitation Residency Research Program. Each year, one artist or scholar, either from Taiwan or abroad, will be invited through a nomination and selection process. We hope that residency artists will connect and integrate various resources, expanding possibilities for collaboration with the museum.

Invitation directions:
1.Encourage forward-thinking perspectives and pioneering practices.
2.Creative/research areas include, but are not limited to, visual arts, performing arts, and cultural studies.
3.Creative works/research may reflect observations, research, or responses to Taiwan’s and neighboring regions’ culture, society, arts, ecology, traditions, humanities, history, industry, or geopolitics.
