Zhuwei Artist Village is operated by ZWartStation Ltd. Since July 2023, it has officially taken over nearly 2,300 square meters in the right half of the original space of Bamboo Curtain Studio. The space was first organized and renovated to restore the basic functions of each building, and then artists from various fields such as sculpture, photography, mixed media, fiber, and pottery are invited to reside and create artworks. The aim is to maintain the original functions of Bamboo Curtain Studio as artists’ studios, provide a stable space for artistic creation and create an opportunity to connect local and international creators.
The site sits next to Tamsui River and Hongshulin wetland. It takes about 10 minutes away from MRT Zhuwei Station on foot, making it easily accessible by public transportation. Along the river, there are bike and pedestrian paths where cyclists and pedestrians frequently enjoy leisurely rides and strolls. The art village is located in a place where cyclists and pedestrians must pass, and from the entrance, visitors can see Mount Guanyin from afar, as well as diverse environmental landscapes such as river basin, wetland, and intertidal zone, offering a unique location to experience nature ecology and convenience in the urban area. In addition, the local community has accumulated artist energy for over 20 years and still attracts many domestic and international artists’ frequent visits and residencies. Artworks and murals scatter at the premise of the village. It is a special site where natural and cultural resources such as National Taipei University of the Arts, Guandu Nature Park, and Guandu Temple and are all nearby.
Zhuwei Artist Village has launched the residency program since 2024 via open calls or collaborations with art organizations to invite artists to reside and create artworks. The artist village also organizes exhibitions, performances, workshops and open studio events. There are three buildings in the village, including office, kitchen, accommodations and nine studios. Two outdoor spaces, around 300 square meters each, are available for exhibitions and performances.
Besides the residency program, 2 to 4 spaces are available for short-term residency for artists. Woodwork, welding, and other professional studios are also gradually established for artist residencies to create artworks and exchange. In the future, Zhuwei Artist Village will continue to develop creative activities among local artists, while also providing studios, workspaces, and living spaces to foster the ongoing advancement of international residency programs.
