Surfy Space was founded in 2022 by Hyper Wave. It’s located at downtown Luodong, and near local night market and railway station. It’s surrounded by cultural and commercial environments. With contemporary art in mind, Surfy Space invites artists, curators, and cultural workers to residency, talks, exhibitions, local studies, and creative journeys. It’s a platform to create local and international connections.

After the opening exhibition in November 2022, Surfy Space initiated the residency program in 2023 with four artists and curators. They were informed by cultural and historical contexts, and created with their visual, performative, and research methods.

Besides the residency program each quarter, Surfy Space also collaborated with Taipei Artist Village in 2023 to invite Korean artist Dae Hong Kim to stay for a week. Thai artist Sareena Sattapon and Singaporean artist Salty-Xi Jie also visited and worked with Hyper Wave members.

Based on the international and interdisciplinary model, we continue to go wider and deeper. Together with outstanding artists, we explore unlimited opportunities in art. Under such an international framework, Surfy Space offers a professional environment that challenges contemporary creators, and bring diverse and avant-garde experiences to viewers.

With our achievements in the past two years, Surfy Space expands practices and experiments in more dimensions. We have reached agreements with organizations in Kyoto (Japan), Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), Singapore, and France for multilateral exchanges over two years. Surfy Space not only provides the residency programs, but also recommends Taiwanese artists to collaborators.

Surfy Space values conversations and exchanges to deliver visions. We are committed to an expanding and absorbing ecosystem that contributes to a better art world in Taiwan.

[Hyper Wave]
Hyper Wave registered in 2022 in Taipei. Its members started with artists selected by the MIT program in Ministry of Culture. Other independent artists and curators join afterwards. The group title comes from variations and uncertainties in the contemporary society. We wander in the real world, integrate contemporary art qualities into daily life, and start conversations with art.
