Zhengbin Harbour Museum of Art (ZHMA) was initiated by a youth group based in Zhengbin Fishing Port in Keelung. By combining art, education, and local stories, the team creates a museum without wall along the harbor. Artworks start at the harbor and discover hidden stories over time. It aims to reconnect people with the land and collaborate with communities sustainably for a better life. It’s a sustainable belt that connects local stores, travelers, artists, and residents.
The room on the second floor of Space Moor includes bunk beds in mixed dormitory room, it can accommodate up to 8 people. It’s equipped with utilities, internet access, washing/drying machine, microwave, oven, air conditioner, dehumidifier, refrigerator, kitchen counter, table and four chairs. The co-working space is five minutes away on foot. It’s multi-functional space for meetings and talks with basic kitchen facilities.
ZHMA organizes an art festival from August to November annually. For this event, there is an open call for residency opportunities. Proposals are required to create artworks on site in all kinds of media based on annual themes. Available funding is specified in the annual announcement. Marketing and surrounding resources, co-working space, accommodation, and exhibition spaces are included. ZHMA is also open to residency applications year-round at artists' own expenses. The artworks do not have to be related to Keelung. ZHMA offers the exhibition space on the first floor of Space Moor for artists to organize events.
The venue is located at Color Houses, a popular destination in Keelung, next to the old Zhengbin Fishing Port and old fisherman association building. You will be exposed to local fishing industries. ZHMA is close to Heping Island Geopark and Wangye Temple with a pilgrimage custom on the ocean. Other art and culture spaces in Keelung include the Riverside Art Studio, as well as the Rooftop Art Studio.
Throughout history, Zhengbin Fishing Port encounters various ethnic groups and cultures, from Han, indigenous communities, Spaniard, Japanese, to Korean. ZHMA collects oral history, build up a database with local stories, and preserve culture and techniques around the fishing port. Based on local knowledge, ZHMA works with artists and local schools to develop lesson plans, in which students to learn about and influence their hometown. ZHMA works with multiple local stores, so exhibitions can scatter around the port. It’s a sustainable belt that connects stores, travelers, artists, and residents.
