The Jan van Eyck Academie is committed to exploring the agency, roles, and civic significance of art, design and other creative practices in relation to climate change, environmental breakdown, and their manifold effects. This institutional focus aims at creating a common-ground that embraces a diversity of practices and allows for a multitude of voices.

As a multi-disciplinary Post-Academy, the Jan van Eyck offers residencies to artists, designers – ranging from graphic, fashion, to food and social design –, writers, curators and architects from all over the world. Every participant is provided with the time, space and expertise needed to develop their artistic practice in depth.

The Jan van Eyck Academie is both a place for research and experimentation, as well as a place for (public) debate and cross fertilization. Self-development is tied in with collaboration and exchange.

Its quality labs, – Food, Material Matters, Photography & Audiovisual, Printing & Publishing, Future Materials –, and well-equipped library, support the participants in the conceptualisation and realisation of their projects.

The Nature Research, Art & Society and Research & Education departments further artistic and academic research, help the participants in realising their projects in collaboration with external parties.

The academy works with a network of (guest) advisers who provide meaningful guidance for participants and the institute alike.

In-Labs provide a framework for participants to work together. Both content and execution of an In-Lab are determined by the participants themselves.

The public programme addresses the topics that feature on the academy's agenda. Placing the climate urgency central, Jan van Eyck aims to offer new perspectives and to encourage a conversation about the arts in a world of environmental breakdown.

Plurality lies at the core of the Post-Academy: its multiform organization, multi-disciplinary and intersectoral approach, makes it a rich environment for participants to thrive and to deepen and ramify their talents.
