About Studio 88 Artist Residency
Studio 88 Artist Residency was co-founded in 2019 by cultural managers Sasiwimon Wongjarin and Claire Rosslyn Wilson. It is located in Sak Homestay, Doi Saket, a town in northern Thailand and about 30 minute-driving from Chiang Mai.
Studio 88 is driven by a desire to connect creative thinkers and contribute to local communities and provides a space to reflect and experiment for all artists and makers.
Sasiwimon Wongjarin and Claire Rosslyn Wilson believe in the power of integrating art into everyday life to create positive change in the world. Thus, Studio 88 is particularly interested in how art can interact with nature, people and culture in daily life, challenging ways of thinking and providing innovative alternatives. From artists’ self-exploration to artistic collaborations, from creatively engaging with the aspirations of schoolchildren to crafting with older generations, every creative project has the potential to change lives.
About the residency and application
Studio 88 Artist Residency is a space to experiment, play, share, make mistakes and learn. The residency aims to provide time out from the busy day-to-day life and give the artists a tranquil space to create. There is no pressure to produce any final outputs by the end of the residency during the stay in Studio 88.
Upon arrival, Sasiwimon Wongjarin (Aom), the founder of Studio 88, an international arts manager also a native of Doi Saket, will introduce the residents to the space and the local context through a series of studio tours and site visits. Additionally, where possible, she can provide additional information about local artist initiatives tailored to each artist’s interests and help facilitate connections with galleries or other industries if the resident is interested.
The residency is an open format where each resident has the freedom to shape their direction and focus. Diverse art forms, artists from different disciplines, and social issues, including environment, empowerment, sustainability, and cross-disciplines, are welcome.
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis for the residency program. There is no deadline; however, the application should be sent at least two months before the proposed residency period, and the duration of the residency would be from one weeks up to three months.
Studio 88 is a nonprofit artist residency. To provide a better environment for creating, the residents need to pay for some services. The fees include arrival and departure transportation to and from the space, accommodation, workspace, multi-purpose open spaces, internet, two meals per day (breakfast and dinner). Please find the details of the residency cost.
To apply, please fill out the Studio 88 Artist Residency application form and email it to studio88artistresidency@gmail.com.
