THE ESTABLISHMENT
The association was established in Blois in 1984 on the initiative of social workers and teachers. Since its creation, the association's project has had an educational orientation. Every year for three days, the association creates a festival that intends to propose an original project expressed through artistic, educational, social, and civic approaches. bd BOUM became the essential actor of "comic strip" in the Centre Val de Loire Region by proposing workshops or animations of variable duration, with the participation of artists.

The Maison de la bd opened its doors in February 2015 at the suggestion of the city of Blois, and 2021 marked the start of the expansion of the premises and the installation of new exhibition spaces.

EXHIBITION SPACE
The Maison de la bd participates in the dissemination and promotion of comics by encouraging encounters between the works, authors, and the public. There are events such as the demonstration of the richly documented archive of the history of worldwide comics. It delights neophytes or enlightened fans. The exhibition for young people, "How to create a comic book with Gaspard," gives some keys to the main stages of making a comic book.

Temporary exhibitions, thematic, monographic, young public, or students' works are presented simultaneously with free access. For all audiences, from simple hanging to scenographic display, exhibitions for rent will meet all desires and budgets.

EDUCATION
The educational team offers:
- half-day and full-day modules (such as introduction to comics, scriptwriting, press illustration, and digital drawing)
- specific projects
- educational kits available to teachers
- workshops of artistic practices
- workshops supervised by authors

Each year, the Maison de la bd organizes a workshop and screenwriting course for adults and a conference on the theme of comics and education. Also, meetings for the general public to the news of the 9th art or concerning significant national events.

PLACE OF CREATION
The Maison de la bd provides artists with a place to work. The Kraft workshop brings people together to work on their editorial projects: comics and children's literature. The association also welcomes artists in residence with the framework of specific devices. And a grant for the creation of young authors of comics is awarded each year during the festival.

Since 2015, The Maison de la bd has welcomed several artists for residency from France, Lebanon, Nepal, Italy, South Korea, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Germany. Moreover, there are artists from Taiwan who joined the project; they are Ho, Hsueh-Yi in 2019, Stellina in 2020, Ray He, Pei-Hsiu Chen, and Adoor Yeh in 2022.
