Hablarenarte is a Madrid-based non-profit organization conceived as a laboratory for producing artistic projects and social innovation. Founded in 2002, Hablarenarte is rooted in contemporary creation, cultural mediation, the cross-over of art and education, and new/other institutional system. Most of its initiatives are developed with national and international partners and aim to reconsider the role of culture in contemporary societies from different but always situated positions.

Hablarenarte has its own residency space named Planta Alta. Set in a building in the very center of Madrid. Facing Madrid's Santa Cruz Square, it is less than 1 minute from Plaza Mayor. All art and cultural venues are within walking distance. Planta Alta hosts artists, researchers, and other cultural professionals interested in developing situated and socially engaged cultural projects. Planta Alta is supported by many public and private organizations, including Spanish Ministry of Culture.

Hablarenarte offers three residency programs:
- Research
- Education and Mediation
- In-context residencies
The period of residency is two months.

Each program collaborates with other cultural agents (artists, curators, cultural managers, and other professionals) and partner institutions, for example Heroes Comic Con Madrid. It also offers activation program with exhibitions, talks, workshops, and more. Future collaborators can participate in the project through direct invitations and open calls.

During the residency, Hablarenarte will organize at least one public event on their premises to present the artist's work to specialized audiences and a broader public. Other spontaneous and incidental activities can be arranged.

In applying for the residency projects, the following information is required:
- Curriculum vitae
- Artist Statement
- Letter motivation
- Six work images (JPG)
- Video works for a maximum of 5 minutes (MOV/AVI/MPG)

From 2021, Hablarenarte, Museo Nacional 12 Centro de Arte Reina Sofia and Fundacion Daniel y Nina Carasso open a new platform “MAR” until 2025. It aims to encourage relevant change actions in contemporary cultural institutions, understanding cultural mediation as the backbone of these transformations. There are three key dimensions of this project:
- A program of research residencies (Notar)
- A cultural mediation network (Alzar)
- A digital archive (Caja)

The three dimensions interweave together and try blur the traditional boundaries between cultural institutions and civil society. Cultural mediation can shift a paradigm of people’s cultural life and public sphere.

Notar focuses on the research on critical education approaches, experimental mediation, and alternative institution systems. Notar carries out six research residencies every year through an open call for applications.
