Artist Statement:
I was inspired by the cultural influences from all over the world to reflect on my life experiences as well as my own culture and history. I re-evaluated my position in artmaking and, at the same time, studied how the arts field operated and functioned in other countries. My research would become references for the construction of my own history and culture.
After I returned to Taiwan, I was actively involved in projects that utilized art for spatial interventions. Including:
1. Planning and running the Pier-2 Art Center, Kaohsiung (as the Artistic Director)
2. Conducting educational research for the Tainan Community University (as the Chairman)
3. Participating in the operation of the Taiwan Artist-in-Residence Interchange Association (as the Chairman)
4. Planning and running the Rong Ren Foundation for Arts and Culture (as the CEO)
After 7 years of working in art for spatial intervention, I focused on my own art practice in 2008. Including:
1. 2008 A Flower it Seems (series)
2. 2011 Arhan (series)
3. 2013 Hyperlink (series)
My residency experience expanded my views towards art and pushed me to become more ambitious in my work. Its influence is still developing and growing inside of me!
