New York-based artist residency program now accepting online applications

The Taipei Cultural Center (TCC) in New York is collaborating with Triangle Arts Association, a renowned visual arts residency in New York, to select one Taiwanese artist or curator to participate in a 3-month residency in New York from Mar. 1 to May 31, 2024, in the vibrant arts and culture hub of Dumbo, Brooklyn. Applications for the selection process are now open and will close on Oct. 31, 2023. Founded in 1982, Triangle Arts Association is celebrating its 41st year and stands as one of the esteemed art residency organizations in New York. The association’s residency programs are conducted on a quarterly basis, with four artists concurrently residing in the emerging art enclave of Dumbo, Brooklyn, near cultural institutions such as the Brooklyn Arts Council, galleries, and artist studios, fostering a vital and dynamic artistic community. The selected participant will be provided with a workspace of approximately 16.5 square meters, specifically catered to artists who require larger space, and benefit from professional guidance provided by the association. Furthermore, they have the opportunity to participate in events hosted by Dumbo Open Studios, amplifying the visibility of their artistic works. Additionally, through the arrangements facilitated by the Triangle Arts Association, they will occasionally meet with representatives from cultural institutions and curators in the New York area. The TCC in New York looks forward to providing this residency opportunity to Taiwanese artists or curators interested in the American and international art scene. This residency program is designed to broaden their international perspectives, establish networks, and elevate their skills, thereby fostering the potential for international visual arts collaborations. Since 2019, the TCC in New York has partnered with the Triangle Arts Association for residency programs, and as part of this partnership, Taiwanese artists such as Wu Ping-sheng (吳秉聖), Chen Liang-hsuan (陳亮璇), Wu Chien-hsing (吳建興), and Wang Po-yen (王博彥) had the opportunity to participate in the residency. Artists-in-Residence (AIR) Program for 2024 Tsung-yeh Art and Cultural Center, Tainan, Taiwan

A.Theme: In 1624, the Dutch East India Company built the first city of Fort Zeelandia on the island in Anping District and established the first ruling regime in Taiwan. Through the development of Anping by the Ming Dynasty, the concentration of trade and economic bases during the Qing Dynasty, and the construction of urban planning and water conservation facilities during the Japanese Dynasty, the foundation of Tainan's urban development was laid. 2024 coincides with the 400th year of Tainan. We hope that through artistic intervention, we can record the present-day appearance of Tainan and move towards a richer and more diversified cultural city. Located near the Kyoto City Central Wholesale Market in a building owned by KYOKA Kyoto Seika Godo Co., LTD, a wholesale produce business, KAGAN HOTEL is a multipurpose arts facility that combines studio and exhibition space with a residency program for young artists. Operated by May Co, LTD, a real estate development company focused on cooperative living spaces, the newly renovated building officially opened to the public in November 2019. Breaking the boundary between Co-Working space and the traditional hotel, KAGAN HOTEL is a residency-based multipurpose arts facility where young artists can develop their work and pursue their art in a cooperative living environment. It is a place where art lovers and art practitioners come together from around the world. The basement of KAGAN HOTEL consists of a 24-hour open gallery and studio. The 1st floor serves as the lobby for checking in. On the 2nd floor, there are studios available for artists and residents to use 24 hours a day, and it also provides space for long-term storage of works for resident creators and artists. The 3rd floor is the living space for emerging artists. The 4th floor is an economic art hostel suitable for long-term guests. The top floor, the 5th floor, is an experiential art hotel. Guests staying on the 5th floor can select and appreciate an artwork created by emerging artists residing in KAGAN HOTEL or in Kyoto. For emerging artists, residing in this establishment not only provides them with a place to live, work, and create, but also allows them to meet art enthusiasts and collectors from all over the world.
