The Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig is an established and central part of cultural life in Ireland and is the largest residency of its type for artists in this country. The center is universally well-regarded for successfully providing a creative space outside everyday life, which gives artists time and space to focus on ideas and work.
The Tyrone Guthrie Centre is the property and home of Sir Tyrone Guthrie. He was who had the vision, generosity and faith to bequeath it to the State to become Ireland’s first Artists’ Retreat. Sir William Tyrone Guthrie (1900-1971) was a celebrated Tony Award-winning theatrical director who was instrumental in founding the Stratford Festival of Canada and the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
