Since the creation of the first International Comics Festival in 1974, Angoulême has become the unrivalled capital of the 9th Art.
In the wake of this event, various structures – Comic strip Museum, European School of Visual Arts, School for animated cinematographic skills - were born and have fostered the emergence of ongoing dynamism benefiting the town and the region.
La Maison des auteurs opened its doors in July 2002 in order to provide positive support to image creators working in Angoulême or who would like to spend time there as resident creators.
La Maison des auteurs has been established with the following purposes in mind:
> offering a working environment that encourages creativity, hosting authors with a view to completing a professional project,
> acting as a showcase for creative achievements in the fields of comics, animated films and multimedia, through exhibitions and events,
> providing a centre of technical and documentary resources,
> providing a forum for meetings and exchanges,
> helping to protect the author's status and to defend intellectual property rights in the field of artistic creation.
