ACC supports activities in line with its mission in promoting international understanding that involve cultural immersion; meaningful cross-cultural engagement; and relationship building, collaboration, or exchange of best practices among peers. Our priority is to support cultural exchange projects that focus on process rather than production. Examples of process-focused activities are research, study, and exploration. By contrast, proposals for touring, performance, exhibition, or any activity focused on the production of work or audience-driven outcomes are not a priority and will only be considered where there is an exceptional contribution to furthering international understanding. In addition to funding, ACC offers logistical and programmatic support such as mentoring and personal introductions to its grant recipients. The kind of support varies by grant type and destination country, and is tailored to each individual. It may include recommendations of sites to visit or activities to participate in; personal introductions to relevant contacts in the field; and visa sponsorship for individuals traveling to the U.S.
1. New York Fellowship Program (Asia-to-U.S. only)
For individuals who wish to participate in a six-month fellowship program based in New York City. The program includes comprehensive logistical and programmatic support from ACC staff. Fellowships may involve targeted research, but open-ended exploration is also allowed and encouraged.
2. Individual Fellowship Program (Asia-to-U.S., U.S.-to-Asia, or intra-Asia)
For individuals (or two collaborators) undertaking self-directed research trips of one to six months. Partial funding for dissertation research projects of up to one year is also available in this category. Programmatic support from ACC staff is offered as needed.
3. Graduate Scholarship (Asia-to-U.S. only)
For students pursuing graduate degrees in the U.S., with priority given to students who do not have access to comparable programs at home, and to those studying in fields that are underrepresented in their home country. Scholarships are for one year and provide for travel expenses and a living stipend, but cannot support full tuition costs.
4. Organization and Project Grant (Asia-to-U.S., U.S.-to-Asia, or intra-Asia)
For organizations that are facilitating a cultural exchange opportunity for individual project participants, or for collaborations involving three or more individuals. All applicants in this category must have either official non-profit status or a fiscal sponsor with official non-profit status. The duration and scope of projects may range.
Where
Individual applicants must be either residents or citizens of Taiwan, R.O.C., and their proposed program must involve travel between one or more countries on the list. Organization and project applicants may apply for activities involving travel between one or more countries on the list.
