Run by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), Korea, the National Art Studio provides artist-in-residence programs in order to encourage and support artistic creativity and to make Korean contemporary art known to the world.

Since 2005, National Art Studio has conducted International Residency Exchange Programs to establish a foothold in the global art world for resident artists in the National Art Studio. Moreover, as part of its cultural policy for the sustainable growth of Asian contemporary art, it also launched a fellowship program specifically to support Asian artists in 2005. Later, in 2008, the fellowship program was expanded to cover artists from the Asia Pacific region.

In addition, the National Art Studio, in 2006, for the first time as a Korean institution, joined the UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists Program operated by the UNESCO International Culture and Arts Promotion Fund.

The National Art Studio endeavors to culturally communicate with local residents through diverse art programs and public art projects.
