Depending on yearly restored space and budget, Kio-A-Thau Sugar Refinery Artist Village not only provides artists accommodations as art studios, but also provides 1~2 months of art-in-residence program or workshop for artists. We also take events of art festival in different themes every year in winter. The genres of art projects include visual art, performance art, Installation art, and movies as well.
We had holding 20th Kio-A-Thau Artist-in-Residence (AiR) programs, provides domestic and international artists with opportunities to reside in the 111-year-old county grade historical site, Kio-A-Thau Sugar Refinery, to develop their new artistic projects. To
continue promoting the space as center of Kaohsiung City’s creative industry, the AiR program encourages artists with creative thinking and personal expression to pursue artistic development through their experience in living and working at this scenic sugar plant.
【PURPOSE】
Since 2020, as COVID-19 has been severely affected in all walks of life around the world, environment has had a respite from this pandemic. Therefore, air quality, hydrology, beaches and land pollution around the world have been improved unexpectedly. Obviously, reducing economic and social activities can bring back our environment. This year, we will reflect on the topic "When the World Slows Down", reminding people to focus on coexisting with the natural horizon peacefully, and
enhance people's willingness of participating in environmental education.
【QUALIFACATION FOR APPLICATION】
1. Age: Individuals of at least 20 years old or groups (2 or more persons or registered corporate bodies)
2. Nationality: Regardless of the nationality
3. Languages ability: Basic English or Mandarin
4. Forms of Art: Visual Arts, Environmental Art, Film and Television Related categories, Multimedia Art or other art related categories, etc.
*The entry conditions for foreigners or non-national artists will depend on future
measures taken by the government in response to the epidemic. Even if they pass the selection, they must abide by the epidemic prevention standards set by the central government. There is no guarantee that they will be able to enter the art village.

Funding | 1. Selected artists have free dormitory provided by this project organizers, NT$ 15,000 each month for production costs. 2. For foreign country artists, NT$ 30,000 each for flights costs. |
Costs | A contract (Appendix 2: 2021 KAT Program Contract) must be signed between the organizer and the artists within seven days of the screening result’s announcement. Both parties must follow the content of the contract. |

Selection Procedure | I. Visions of artistic creation (40%) II. Capability of execution (40%) III. Status of implementation of feedback programs (20%) Evaluation Team: The organizers will recruit 3-5 experts, scholars and artists to form a temporary committee to do the screening. |
Expected Outcome | a. Resident at least four days a week, and regularly participate in the artist-in- residence meeting to promote interaction of artists. b. Present your achievements while at the village, and donate one representative piece of artwork to Kio-A-Thau collection. c. Promote culture and art education for community art interaction. |
